ECR Road in Chennai to be expanded into 4 lanes at a huge cost!!
ECR or East Coast Road is a major arterial road in Chennai that connects the city with the East Coast of Tamil Nadu. As of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, there were plans to expand ECR into a four-lane road at a cost of Rs. 1,400 crore (approximately USD 190 million). The project was expected to cover a distance of 33.5 kilometers from Akkarai to Mamallapuram.
The expansion of ECR into a four-lane road is expected to improve the connectivity between Chennai and the tourist destinations along the East Coast. It is also expected to reduce traffic congestion and travel time for commuters. The project is being executed by the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) and is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
It is possible that there have been updates on this project since my knowledge cutoff date, so it would be best to check for any further developments or changes in the project status.
